ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari Wednesday called for a Special Initiative Plan for the Gilgit-Baltistan for setting up of a number of infrastructure and development projects in the fields of energy, higher education, industrial zones and tourism.
Talking to a 21-member PPP delegation led by Syed Mehdi Shah, President PPP Gilgit Baltistan from Gilgit-Baltistan here at the Presidency, he said that uplift and political reforms for the area were part of the PPP manifesto. During every PPP government the Party had taken significant steps in this regard, he added.
The delegation congratulated the President on the unveiling of a far reaching political reform package for Gilgit-Baltistan recently by the Federal Cabinet. They also pledged support to the President and the government policies.
Members of the delegation also highlighted specific developmental issues concerning their areas. The President said that he will advise the government to address their concerns at the earliest.
Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira and MOS for Foreign Affairs Nawabzada Malik Ahmad were also present at the meeting.
